Stretton's News Good afternoon. I hope you are all enjoying this lovely weather that we have recently had, and you are all now more aware of the importance of wearing sun protection after last week’s newsletter. Many thanks for the feedback from that. It is amazing just how many people skin cancer does effect. Last Thursday and Friday, I spent a couple of day’s across at Hillside watching The British Masters. This was my Christmas present from Nathan and Natasha. What a great present it was too as I had a great time watching some very good golf from very close to the action. I have been to The Open a few times but this was by far and away a better way to get close to the players. I know he failed to win but Matt Wallace really is in a different class the way he hit’s the golf ball. Martin Kaymer is also very impressive but I guess to be a two-time Major champion you would be! I have come back though with a few new swing thoughts after watching, and at the moment it is working. I also have a new putter grip on its way as again after getting up so close as I was surprised how many putts with their thumbs so close together so I’m going to give that a try. I shall let you know how I get on. For sure, I will be going to Close House next year to watch again. Below are some pictures for you. Some are a little dark as the weather unfortunately on Thursday wasn’t great. |

Captains Challenge On Saturday morning the Prout brothers challenged us again as nobody else had put their names down. They were after revenge from the defeat we inflicted on them a few months ago, and despite lots of banter before the game, they never stood a chance! I played fairly solidly all the way round despite a bad back and trying to make a couple of swing changes and Dave other than three bad holes played very well too. This meant the result was never in doubt with us taking the front-nine, the back-nine and winning the game 4&3. Just the eight bits too. Great laugh all the way round though and a massive thanks to Shaun and Steve for again making a very generous donation to the Captains charity. |
Callaway Demo Day Don’t forget tomorrow is the Callaway Demo Day which if the weather is good, will be held on the top practice ground between 10am and 2pm. Remember, if you just want to try and see if you could improve your golf with some new equipment, please pop along and have a go.

European Tour Fantasy Race To Dubai Rees Brown was last weeks top scorer and has helped him move up to ninth place overall. He narrowly beat Chris Stephenson and myself. I’m now up to second and only a little behind Mike Smith who still leads the way. Big money this week so could be some changes coming! |

Junior Golf Sixes Last year, you might well remember that Hornsea did really well winning the Junior GolfSixes. This is an event played in teams of six at six different venues for juniors that are new to golf. Well, last Sunday was the first event of this year’s campaign and Hornsea have got off to a great start. This is what Paul sent out to everyone: "Just a quick update regarding the GolfSixes from yesterday. Thank you to all those who attended, I hope you enjoyed playing a different course and meeting some new people. Thank you to the parents who provide lifts and support to the team, we cannot do this without you. The results were fantastic with two scores of 39 and a 36 gave us a team total of 114, which meant that we won the event and are top of the leaderboard...brilliant result everyone. Our next fixture is on Wednesday, 9 May at Hainsworth Park, I will have the team selected soon along with the team for the rest of the fixtures so that any holidays etc can be planned.

On Sunday, 12 May, Hornsea held their first ever Spring Trophy in absolutely fantastic conditions. There was a bit of a breeze but bright blue skies made for good scoring. Every card that came in made comments on how well the course was playing and how they had all enjoyed it. We have a few more events coming up which can be found on www.hornseagolfclub.co.uk or www.golfempire.co.uk.

Keeping You Updated! It has been a busy week out on the course this week with everything now growing so quickly you turn you back and it needs doing again! On Monday morning the greens were verti-cut, followed by a cut and then a granular feed applied. Greens are now pretty well cut daily and if not cut they are ironed. The rest of the course is all getting cut as often as is possible. Please always remember that greens staff always have priority whilst working and they will move out of the way when they see you.

Pictures From The Course I have been sent so many great pictures from the course this last week so here are just a few. It really is looking great at the moment and last Wednesday’s rain has really greened everything up. Can I thank all those that have sent me pictures and please keep them coming. |
Unfortunately, I have to put this picture on though which is not a good one. On Saturday morning a divot was taken out of the 18th green about twelve feet from the hole. This sort of behaviour is something we really don’t want to see again at Hornsea especially as this must have been done by a member.
