A GOLF BALL OFFER NOT TO MISS!

Have you all seen the great offer on Srixon Z Star golf balls at the moment? Only £29.99. That's a saving of £18 on the full recommended retail price. It's a great golf ball if you haven't tried it.

ODE TO THE SLOW GOLFER

Be ready on the first and stand
With ball on tee and club in hand
On the next tee saving times not hard
One drives off, one marks the card
Don't leave trolleys in the way
Or those behind must wait to play
Keep up with players ahead of you
To lose a hole's strictly taboo.
Ball's whereabouts? Haven't got a clue?
You must call following players through.
In Stablefords you cannot score?
Pick up your ball and putt no more!
But if a slowcoach you must stay
Then please play later in the day!

This was sent to me by Steve Bowling who saw it at Sandmoor Golf Club. With winter golf now upon us, a shortage of daylight hours and more and more complaints about slow play I thought it was quite apt. I'm sure none of us think we are slow on the course but please always be aware of the pace you are playing at.

I know it's not just members that read this newsletter. We have a great winter green fee price to play at Hornsea. Only £17.50 each to play at one of Yorkshires finest Golf Courses. We never ban trollies and I can't remember the last time we had to go onto temporary greens. Give us a call to book yourself a start time 01964 534989. We also have some great offers for parties wanting to play next year. Ring the same number for details.

CAPTAINS CHALLENGE

After been rained off last week it was nice to get back out on the course again. This week our challengers where Terry Cutts and Ian McIntosh. I did wonder if they would turn up as when I looked on the booking sheet I saw they were down to play against another pair also!!

They did turn up and played some great golf too which was a bit of a worry!!

All square after 9 we were roughly 5 under for those holes. It was the next 3 holes that really swung it for us though with Club Captain Keith starting the back 9 par nett birdie, birdie, par nett birdie. Keith also made a par nett birdie on the 15th hole to secure a 5&3 win for us.

A great game though with lots of fun and banter. Thank you Terry and Ian.

RIDE ON BUGGIES

Please can all members using their own or anyone hiring a ride on buggy please take much more care of where you are going? Try and keep away from wet areas and please do not go too close to tees and greens.

This picture is from Sunday morning 9th November where you can clearly see where two different buggies have tried to get up the hill on the 2nd. One has even slipped backwards. This was just one of many pictures I could have taken. Please take care. We do not want to stop them going but if this keeps happening we might not have any choice.

Reminders will be sent out shortly to all members that are using ride on buggies that we need a copy of current up to date insurance.

A copy of correct use of buggies during the winter will also be sent to all users. Can any member seeing anyone taking a ride on buggy in a silly place please tell them. It is your course. If you are taking a buggy up the 2nd please stay as far to the right or left.

GREENS

Not sure if any of you have noticed but the greens are been slit once a week at the moment. This helps to aerate the greens with little disruption to golfers and also helps with drainage. At the moment we have a little fusarium on the greens. This was sprayed for early on Sunday morning before most of you would have been up. I am sure you will all agree though that the greens at Hornsea are fantastic and they are by far and away the best greens I have played on at for this time of year ever. For those who played last Thursday apologies for the fire between the 12th and 13th but there was a lot of old branches etc. to burn.

Hoops have been put out to keep all golfers away from sensitive and wet areas. They are not extra hazards for golfers to step over or walk between. If you see anyone doing this please tell them. It is your course and the reason the hoops are put out is to protect it. Can all golfers also try to avoid walking between the greens and greenside bunkers.

Ropes will also be put out this week to keep golfers using trollies and ride on buggies away from the greens and surrounds. We never have a trolley ban but if you are able to carry please think about doing so. It not only helps the golf course but will also save you walking much further. If you see anybody ignoring the ropes please tell them.

Pitch marks are still a big problem. It can't be hard for every player to repair one on each green. A pitch mark left un-repaired takes a long time to recover and can leave a nasty scar. If you are unsure about how to repair a pitch mark then click on the video above.

This Saturday 15th November see the Captains Finale Dinner Dance at the Golf Club. At the time of me writing this the event is full. I'm sure it's going to be a great night.

For all prize winners and anyone else wanting to attend the date of the presentation event is Sunday December 14th. Please see attached poster below.

PAUL GIBSON - PGA TEACHING PROFESSIONAL

I have had another great week at Hornsea Golf Club with more people signing up for my great winter offer of 3 hours of coaching for only £60! If you want to take me up on the offer then see me or one of the shop team and you can even buy it online - just click here. I have also had a lot of people interested in my golf holiday to Portugal next March, so if you want to go, make sure you get your deposits to me (only £50) before Christmas. Along with being busy teaching, I have found some time to enjoy myself with a trip to Scunthorpe on Bonfire Night and a visit to Leeds to see the comedian John Bishop. Although I hadn't seen much stand up from him before, I must say I was very impressed and would recommend you go see him, if you get chance.

This week in my blog I am talking about course management click here to find out more.
