Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly newsletter, where we keep you up to date with everything happening here at Hornsea Golf Club. We hope you've had a great week and enjoy the read! |
Everything you need in one place
Many thanks to those members who recently filled in the online survey as organised by Foremost Golf. Many of you have benefitted from the £20 Click and Collect voucher, hopefully, you all read the small print, unfortunately, this voucher was for online purchases through the Foremost website only. One area this did highlight was the selection of products; obviously, as we are a small retail outlet in the toughest retail market for years we can only stock a selection of the equipment and clothing that is now available to us all with the power of the internet. With the benefit of being part of Foremost we all now do have the option of a wider selection of products, more than ever before; so if you are looking for your next purchase but don’t see it in the Shop, please, either look on the Foremost website, or have a word in the shop and we will see what we can do. If we are able to price match we will, again bearing in mind current product availability and stock clearance.

Ladies Champion of Champions
Can I just mention that it is really nice of the Ladies Section to also be holding a Champion of Champions competition again in recognition of my 20 years’ service to the club. This will also be a name in gold alongside the gent’s winner each year and a trophy presented. Good luck to all who have qualified for the event which is to be played on the 12th November. |
Junior AM-AM
On Sunday 19 teams played in the Hornsea Golf Club Junior Fundraising Am-Am. This was a little disappointing as we had 26 teams play and support the juniors last year. Many thanks though to all those that did play or that made a donation. The total raised in the end was £930.

Fantasy Golf
It really is getting interesting with just 5 events remaining, Pete Cane struggled this week but still just manages to hang on to the top spot overall. With big points at stake in the final 3 events though I really think anyone still within 4,000 points could still win if they have a few great weeks. This includes me! Gareth Maiden was the top scorer this week but he would need an amazing finish to get into the prizes now I would say. Tom Broadley is still looking like winning the wooden spoon! |
Wright & Duckworth Win at Ganstead
Last Thursday the Hull and District Alliance was held at Ganstead. Nathan Wright and Paul Duckworth managed to win the alliance with a fantastic score of 10 under par, 62. This included 11 shots picked up with just the one dropped. Also coming in the prizes was Jonny Hanson and Stu Pearson with a 1 shot worse, 63. Things could have been better for these 2 had they not had a nett double bogey to count on the 7th. A special win for both Nathan and Paul though with Nathan winning both the East Riding and Hull & District Alliances in the space of a week and Paul achieving his first win the Alliances after a few years of playing in them. Well done boys.

Fun Guys to play with... For those that have played this last week the wet and warm conditions really have got the different mushrooms and fungi growing. I have had many different people send me pictures so thanks go to you all. Here are some of the best. |

Take care of your course
It is great to see so many of you have had your shoes re spiked this last week but can golfers just take a little more care whilst walking on the greens. This mark was made on the 1st green on Saturday. |

Course Updates
The temperatures have now cooled down a little now overnight but the grass is still growing. The greens are now getting regularly hand-cut and rolled to keep the surfaces good. I have attached a video below showing them working in the dark on Saturday morning well before many of you would have been out of bed! I had a little fly that must have liked my camera too! At the end of last week the greens were also sprayed with iron, bio’s, phosphate and amino’s to help them through the winter. On Sunday afternoon Gareth started to micro-tine the greens to help get oxygen to the roots after all the recent wet weather. Hard to believe at this time of year but the rough has also been cut and the daily task of keeping playing areas free of leaves continues but this really is a never-ending task! The ropes, as I wrote this as yet, haven’t gone out but can all golfers please think about where they are going. Please don’t take trolley between the green and greenside bunkers and try to avoid walking through any wet or worn areas. I know many of you don’t like it when the ropes go out but they have to be put down to keep golfers away from these areas. Maybe if more thought about where they were walking we might not have to have them at all. The compressor at the side of the 18th is causing some problems as it keeps tripping out. It has been looked at a few times now so it is something we are aware of. Work has also been done on the drain on the far end of the putting green as this area is often very wet when it rains.
