Manage your Expectations I did think this was an interesting article on Twitter of how close the tour players hit the ball from various different distances. I do think many of us maybe expect too much and then are hard on ourselves. Take a look it might make you think differently. Click the image to enlarge. |

Club Presentation Evening Last Sunday was the presentation of trophies to all of this year’s winners. What a great turn out it was too with a full clubhouse not only of the winners but also of people just coming to support. It really is nice to celebrate all of our winners and well done to you all. Can I thank all that attended and made the evening so successful. It is hard work cleaning all the trophies and a big thanks to Yvonne and Wendy Lockwood for this. Putting them all out in order takes a while but they do look fantastic all on display. Can I finally thank Leigh Gawley, his wife Jayne and Rees Brown for taking all the photos. I know he is busy editing them and hopefully, we shall have them for the weekend. Here are a couple of videos of all the trophies on display and then one of all the happy prize winners.

Message from Matty Raybould in America
I know Matty Raybould was disappointed to be missing the Club Presentation but he did send this email from America to let you all know how he is getting on for everyone to read. Dear Members, As most of you know I am still out in America doing my second of four years at University. It has been a bit of a rocky semester with my golf not being in its best shape. This has turned themselves around though and I have started to get back on track with where I want to be at the start of the spring semester where we will compete in a further 5 tournaments, as well as our Conference Championship at the end of April. As for academics, everything in that department is great. We are currently in our last week of classes and finish of the fall with exams at the start of next week. I fly back home for Christmas on the 15th so am very much looking forward to seeing you all, especially those playing in the upcoming Christmas and New Year’s Am-Am’s as these are always great days filled with lots of fun! Asides from the golf and the studies, this message was really a thank you for all your continued support with my endeavours. It really makes me happy to have so many of you show interest and I am always more than happy to talk to any of you about my amazing experiences. 2019 for Hornsea Golf Club was an outstanding year in my eyes. If it wasn’t becoming defending Scratch League champions it was our ladies section having an extremely competitive year across the board. I could go on and on. One obvious highlight for me was becoming the Champion Club of Yorkshire and being able to contribute to sending a team to the National finals. This was a first for Hornsea and it was amazing to see how the club, as a whole, collectively showed their support. Special! I still haven’t thanked Sam Middleton enough for ushering me around the course that day as any of you who saw or heard it was certainly an experience. A round of 72 gross with 7 up and downs on the front 9 alone was a first for me too! Sam, I still owe you a pint. All in all, I am grateful to be a part of such an amazing club that cares so highly of its members. I look forward to seeing you all over the Christmas period and maybe getting to play a few rounds of golf with some of you. For those of you who I might not get the chance to see, I hope you have a fantastic Christmas and a Happy New Year. Bring on 2020 for Hornsea Golf Club!

Boxing Day Bring and Win
I know it is a good few weeks away yet, but it is funny how some of the regular participants in this event are already planning what prize to bring and how they are going to wrap it. If you have never played in it before, it really is great fun. Just bring a wrapped prize to the value of £5 or more as your entry to the shop on the day. Play a 13 hole individual Stableford and everyone wins a prize after. It is open to members and non-members if you have any family or friends staying with you. It really is a great event and I would love to see the start sheet full. If you want to play the start sheet is now available in the Pro Shop with times available between 9 am and 10:30 am.

New timbers on the 5th Another pretty horrible week for the lads out working on the course as this horrible spell of weather is just not letting up. At least this is giving them a chance to make sure all the equipment is serviced and in fine working order. One job completed this week was the timbers leading to 5th tee which have been replaced. A lot of these had been damaged with people driving over them when we have shotgun starts. Can we just ask that in future please drive over the area that is left with no timber. Can we also just give a gentle reminder that whilst it is so wet please make sure you repair at least two pitch marks per green, even if you don’t think you have made a mark, and also repair divots with the divot mix that is available near the first tee, or replace any divots you take or see.

Red Sky in the morning...
This was taken by Gareth on Tuesday morning. What is the saying? “Red sky in the morning, Shepherd’s warning” Well that was true on Tuesday with strong winds and heavy rain! Great picture though.
