East Riding Union of Golf Clubs
Firstly, can I just thank Steve Robinson for taking the time in doing the below report. East Riding Union of Golf Clubs
As a member of Hornsea Golf Club, you are able to participate in the competitions organised by the East Riding Union of Golf Clubs. The Union is affiliated to the Yorkshire Union of Golf Clubs and ultimately England Golf.
These organisations provide competitions and coaching facilities to enable amateur golfers to develop through local, regional and national competitions. The East Riding Union organises five annual competitions – Team Championship, Seniors Championship, Open Championship, Amateur Championship and the Boys Championship.
At Hornsea, details of the competitions are placed on the East Riding Union Notice board in the Locker room. Details can also be found on the ERUGC website here.
The Union also organises members meetings five times a year across the East Riding- Hornsea has always been a strong supporter of these meetings, an annual dinner is organised at Willerby Manor Hotel.
Elite golfers – usually with a handicap of 3 or less – can represent the Union in inter-district competitions against other district unions in Yorkshire. A similar team operates for boys who show outstanding ability. Coaching is provided for golfers who are in the East Riding Squad.
Hornsea Golf Club has provided many team players, champions and officials for the East Riding Union. Leigh Gawley, Tom Broadley, Nick and Matt Raybould and Jack Maxey have played for the East Riding inter-district team in 2019. The East Riding 6 man team, with three players from Hornsea - Leigh, Nick and Tom, won the Yorkshire inter-district 6 man team event in 2019 – 36 holes of scratch golf all scores to count; a tough format.
Nick Raybould is the 2019 Open & Matchplay Champion. Jack Maxey is the 2019 Junior Champion.
