PROFESSIONAL SHOP
On Thursday 5th March Hornsea Fire Brigade handed over a cheque for £1,000 pounds to Yorkshire Air Ambulance. This money was raised at the Am Am held at Hornsea last year. This year's event will be held here again on Friday 5th June. If you would like to enter a team please contact us in the Professional shop.
Saturday saw me take Nathan up to Ganton for an East Riding Junior Team coaching session. Well the forecast I saw was good and going to be warmer. When we got to Ganton it was anything but warm with a gale blowing straight into the boy's faces. Tough conditions to be practicing in for 3 hours. They all did really well though. I would think on what I saw they should all do well this year.
Those that come into the shop this next week might notice the shop looking a little short of stock. We are having to move everything out as we are having a bit of work done on the ceiling early next week. It should only be for a few days though so please bear with us whilst this work is been done.
Big congratulations to Mike Brooke who after 56 years of trying has managed to get his first hole in one. He achieved this on Sunday on our 17th hole using a 9 iron. Many congratulations Mike.
I think everyone that has played this last week will agree that our greens really are very good. Unfortunately for one of our top golfers maybe a little too good!! Whilst playing the 13 hole in the Sunday Stableford, Adrian Rosindale had a slight rush of blood and actually managed to putt his ball from the green into the pond. I'm sure he has come in for a bit of stick about this as Mick Russell couldn't wait to tell me!!
The sheet will be going up this week for the first Sunday Shotgun Am Am. This takes place on the 12th April, 9am tee off, entry fee £20 per team. Ladies will be playing for their own prizes as long as there are 4 or more ladies teams. The entry form will be outside the Pro shop from Sunday. It would be nice to see this event full with all members that can, playing and supporting it. Please note a few of the double tee starts have moved to try and encourage a better pace of play.
Please be aware the compressor is out of action at the moment. A new compressor more suited to purpose is being sought and will be installed shortly. This area is going to be re designed and will incorporate a grid area to keep the area looking better. Thanks to the Senior Section for sorting this.
Whilst writing this on Tuesday afternoon one of our members came in to say how good the greens where. Unfortunately he also felt the need to mention the fact that even though the greens are so good he was very disappointed to see them covered in so many pitch marks. Please, please can you all do your upmost to repair any pitch mark you see.
CAPTAINS CHALLENGE
If you have not seen it yet, the sheet is up in the clubhouse on the Captains board for this year's challenges. There are quite a few dates available to challenge us. This Sunday saw us take on Andy Kelly and Stu Pearson. We had a good game with plenty of banter. The front nine saw lots of good golf with never more than a hole in it and in the end finishing all square. With a little help from Andy's hangover kicking in and Stuart starting to struggle with his game the back nine was soon under control for myself and Alan with a birdie on the 16th finally finishing them off 3 & 2. Big thanks to Andy and Stuart though who both made a good donation to the Captains charity. Thanks boys. I did take this picture of Stuart playing his second shot on one of the holes. Can any of you guess which hole?

LADIES MAIL ON SUNDAY MATCH
On a very wet and blustery Monday afternoon our Hornsea ladies played their second round match in the Mail on Sunday against Hainsworth Park. It was all very serious with both teams all having caddies and a few others just watching. It was a close contest but our girls did well getting the better of Hainsworth Park 3 games to 2. Well done to our team and good luck in the next round. Our gent's team plays this Saturday away at Withernsea in their second round. Good luck to them too.
KNOCKOUT COMPETITIONS
Have you all entered the Club Knockout competitions yet? Closing date for entries is 20th March. Draws will then be made to see who you are playing against and put in the clubhouse and also on the Hornsea Golf Club website. If not a copy of the entry forms can be found here.
TUESDAY CLUB
I know it might have seemed like a long winter but yes it's nearly time for the Tuesday club to start again. Last year saw a good entry and it would be nice to get even more playing this year. Lots of hard work by Pat Slaven, Tony Hood, Nev Cook and others make this friendly but competitive Tuesday afternoon / evening golf one of the best events at the club. Click here to find attached a poster with more details.
HULL & DISTRICT GOLFING ASSOCIATION
It was Hornsea's turn to hold the Hull and District event on Thursday 5th March. What a great job Gareth and his team did in preparing the course so well. The greens where superb and brought many great comments from everyone that played. It wasn't a bad performance from the Hornsea team too with myself and Club Captain Alan Barker taking first place with a score of 64. 2nd also from Hornsea was Stuart Branton and Mark Cooke with a 65. Gareth Williams and Malcolm Train where 4th and in 5th was Dave Whitton and Phil Kitchen. Hornsea now hold a 9 shot lead going into the final event which is to be played at Hull Golf Club on Thursday 19th March. Click here to see full set of scores (Click here to see full Hull team)
