Preferred lies would normally come off at the start of April but due to grass not really growing and thickening up yet, we will be leaving it on until the 1st of May. The new bunkers on the 7th and 8th are now in play. We shall remain playing off the forward tee on the 8th for a couple more weeks to try and keep golfers away from walking on the newly turfed areas right of 7 and to give the tee a little more chance to settle. There is now a local rule regarding the areas on the 7th, 8th and 12th where you might find an abnormal ground condition due to the recent works. (Drop within one club length not nearer the hole and not in a hazard or on the putting green) Rule 25-1.
After a recent discussion at the Golf Committee it was decided to change the format of the Centenary Gold Medal competitions. It will now be an order of merit with all five rounds will now counting. Points will be awarded for the top 15 places in each division gross and nett. 1st 25 points, 2nd 20 points, 3rd 16 points, 4th 13 points, 5th 11 points, 6th 10 points, 7th 9 points, 8th 8 points, 9th 7 points, 10th 6 points, 11th 5 points, 12th 4 points, 13th 3 points, 14th 2 points and 15th 1 point.
A leader board will then be displayed after each round so you can see how you are getting on. It was also decided that on the Gold Medal days if you play before 1.30pm you must enter the competition. This has been done to try and raise the profile of these events which are our main medals of the season. Far too many complain of being harassed by non-medal players who bviously play quicker. For ladies that play on Saturdays, a medal competition has been put on for you all also.
On Sunday, 3 May we are going to be having an open afternoon from 1pm until 4pm, where everyone is invited to come along and see what Hornsea Golf Club has to offer. If you have any friends or family that you think might be interested please tell them about it.
Luke Robinson was picked to play for Yorkshire against Derbyshire at Kedleston Park on Saturday. Partnering Ben Hutchinson from Howley Hall in the morning foursomes they had a great win by 4&3. Yorkshire had a great morning in fact and took a nice lead into the afternoon singles 4 ½ to 1 ½. Luke then played against Dan Housley in the afternoon singles and another solid performance saw him win again by 4&3. The final score was a great win for Yorkshire 13 ½ to 4 ½. Well played Luke. Great start to your season. (old pic we had of Luke)

Mail on Sunday
Both the gents and ladies teams where in action on Sunday. Our gents team played at home against Hull and after a very tight game Hornsea came out the winners, 3 games to 2. The ladies had an away fixture and had to go to Driffield. They did really well and it was all tied after the five games but lost on extra holes to an eagle 2 on the 2nd. Unlucky girls. Better luck next year.

Greens
Strange week this week with the weather remaining so mixed with not a lot of growth. The greens have recovered well and I'm sure all that have played will be impressed at how quickly they are running and also very true. Tee's are being solid tined and the approaches will be hollow cored and top dressed shortly. There are also a few areas on some of the fairways that will need a bit of aeration too. The wooden frame that has been put up near the first tee is for divot bags. These will be going out shortly so please remember to take one with you as you go out to play. It is not for tying your horse too!
It has been mentioned to me a quite a few times about each member having a hole to look after. Really making sure that bunkers are raked, divots replaced but most importantly pitch marks are repaired. With this in mind the following poster shows which hole you have to look after depending on the letter of your surname. Please try and remember which hole is yours. In the end it is your course and any help to look after it goes a long way. For more details click here, to see our poster
