Greetings from Stretton Wright
Hornsea Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

I was away on Sunday at my nieces wedding in a little village called Burbage which is near Coventry. It doesn't seem like two minutes ago that she was one of mine and Yvonne's bridesmaids. How time flies!! It was a fantastic day and my niece looked amazing. Instead of a picture of me this week I have included a picture of the happy couple.

Summer is definitely coming. Tuesday 7th April saw our first gent's member out in shorts. You look very smart as always Mick Copley. (above right)

We have just about got the shop back to normal now with all stands and displays now full. Please always remember that if you want something that is not in stock we do hold accounts with most of the golf companies and can try and get what you want. All you have to do is ask and we shall be as helpful as we can.

It was great to see that so many of you took a divot bag with you on Saturday and Sunday. We plan to get a half barrel at the end of the 18th for you to put your empty bags in. Until we get one please either bring your empty bags to the shop or just hang back up on the stand. There will also be one near the rail on the first and another at the 10th tee for you to fill up your bags. It was also nice to hear so many positive comments on which hole your surname corresponds to as to your hole to look after. We might have to have a little competition as to which hole per month is the best looked after!! If you have forgotten already click here to see the list again.

Well by the time you all receive this, one of the best golfing events of the year will have started. The Masters. It's one of the first events I ever remember watching on TV with my dad many years ago. I was 10 years old and it was Seve's first win. 1980 was the year. Seve was 23, won his first Masters and second major championship title, four strokes ahead of runners-up Jack Newton and Gibby Gilbert. Ballesteros had a seven stroke lead after 54 holes and extended it to ten strokes after the front nine of the final round at 16-under-par, eyeing the Masters record of 271 (-17) set by Jack Nicklaus in 1965 (and equalled by Raymond Floyd in 1976). A new record (of 270 or lower) was to be rewarded with a $50,000 bonus from Golf magazine.

An hour later, after he found the water at 12 and 13 at Amen Corner, the lead had been reduced to three. Ballesteros regrouped with a birdie at 15 and parred the rest to shoot even-par 72 for the round and held on for the victory. It was from that day that I became a Seve fan. I wonder who will be putting the famous green jacket on this Sunday?

Despite numerous requests to try and find a junior organiser as yet we have had nobody. This is a really important role and I'm sure we must have someone that can help. We really do have a great junior section and they are the future of the club. If you can help please have a word in the shop.

TUESDAY CLUB

Tuesday 7th April saw the start of the gents Tuesday club. It was a fantastic day with near perfect conditions. Showing early form with a great score of 38 points was Barry Peasgood who took the money on the first week. In 2nd George Mason 35 points and the nearest to the pin on the last went too Pat Slaven. Remember you have from now until 22nd September to get 10 scores in.

Big thanks to Lindsay Ward who has been down to tidy the flower beds near the shop. If anyone else would like to help out with the flower beds please contact the shop.

Pitch marks are still a major problem with many still left not repaired. Can you all, as has been mentioned before, try to repair at least one per green. If a pitch mark isn't repaired it really can cause a bad scar mark.

"A pitchmark repaired within 10 minutes of being created will fully recover within three days. A poorly repaired pitchmark or one left for a day before being repaired will take over a week to heal.

"On average the number of ball marks made on greens by a golfer per round is eight. Assuming only 130 rounds are played daily on our course, our greens receive 1040 impressions daily, 31,000 per month or more than 374,400 per year." Your greens will not run true of marks are not repaired.

Now I have posted this before but I was just wondering how many of you have looked after your hole that I mentioned last week?

It was good to see that so many of you took a divot bag with you at the weekend. It has also been very disappointing though that not many have been taken through the week. Please it is your course and every little bit we can do to make it better will help.

We now have a new course information sign that I hope you have all noticed as you have come down to the shop. This has been provided by Keith Marshall, last year's captain with funds raised in his year. Thanks go to Keith and all who contributed.
