Greetings from Stretton Wright
Hornsea Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

I hope you have all had a good week,

With the JuniorsThe weather yet again has been a little mixed this week but hopefully summer is just round the corner. I couldn't believe how wild it was on Monday night. Is it really June!!! Paul was away at a wedding last weekend so I did the junior lesson on Saturday.

Great to see so many attending and all improving. If any of you have any children or grandchildren please bring them along. Every Saturday at 10am and only £2.50

If you'd like to ask any questions about our junior coaching please click here to send me an email.

We have quite a few entry sheets now up outside the shop.

Invitation Day which is a Betterball is on Sunday June 28th.

We have also put the sheet up for the next Monday night shotgun. It was going to be a Foursomes but I have had a lot of requests for another Texas Scramble so a Scramble it is. This is to be played on the Monday night after Captains weekend; the 6th July.

Talking of Captains Weekend the sheets are now up for both days 4th and 5th July. The 4th will be the usual Captains Medal but on Sunday the 5th for a change it will be a Waltz.

Finally the sheet for entering the 36 hole Club Championship is also up. The Jack Major Trophy, Norman Seaton Trophy and the John Wood Chalices.

Just a quick reminder for those of you that have knockouts to play. The closing date for quite a few of them is the 7th June and I see quite a few of you have again left it until the last week to get your games sorted. There is nearly 6 weeks between each round.

Will JordanWhat a difference a week makes. Will Jordan pictured here after last Tuesday's 49pts and then on Saturday I had to disqualify him for not signing his card!! Sorry Will.

Well done to the Ladies 'A' team who managed a win against Driffield at home on Monday 6½ / ½. Well done girls. I wonder if my brother will get to hear about that result from his ladies!!!

Over 77s AmAm    Leigh and Rees

It is always great to see members making a real effort in looking smart. Pictured above we have Leigh Gawley and Rees Brown playing together in one of the better ball knockouts in team colours. Both looking very smart in the latest Oscar Jacobson which is of course available from the shop!!

Many congratulations to Maurice Hunter whilst away on a trip to Breadsall Priory. He must have been watching Miguel Angel Jimenez as this week it was Maurice's turn for a hole in one. Well done Maurice.

Captains Challenge

Last Sunday the Captain and I kept up our unbeaten record in the Captains Challenge. It was a tough game though against a strong pairing of Mike Brooke and Paul Brummitt. If any of you have ever played against Mike you will know he is a very good golfer and in Paul he had a very good partner who had just gone up to 16!!

We had a great game with a little bit of banter and despite the wet weather conditions for the 1st 9 holes we had managed to get to 2 up helped with a birdie from myself on the 8th and Alan winning the 9th with a shot. The good golf by all continued on the back 9 but Alan on the 17th holed an amazing putt from about 30 feet for a 2 and closed out the game.

Thanks to Mike and Paul for the donation to the charity and thanks also for a very enjoyable morning.

Treatment Room

The treatment room is now open in what was the old office. Please note that Tim has some great offers on in the first month. He is offering £5 OFF every treatment option including a 45 min sports massage, 30 min sports massage and 45 min initial injury consultation.

Please pop in to see Tim or give him a call to discuss how he can help you.

Treatment    Summer Ball

Tuesday Club

Well it was slightly breezy this week and the scores where a little different to last week with a score 12 shots less winning!! This week coming out on top was Steve Milner with a very steady 37 which just managed to pip Bill Railton on the back 9. Not one person managed to hit the 18th green so no winner of the nearest the pin this week. Just so you all know last weeks amazing score of 49pts by Will Jordan his form hasn't lasted. He only managed 32 this week!!

Club House

The Summer Ball is on Saturday the 4th of July. Tickets for this black tie event are available from the Captains, Vice Captains or from the club Bar and are priced at just £30 per person. Click here or on the poster above for a larger image.

Greens

Well the course was looking fantastic until that storm on Monday night which left debris all over the place. It is all back looking good again now though. It is a busy week on the course so most of this week has been spent preparing the course and cutting. Feedback yet again is that Hornsea really is one of the best condition courses in the area and one people are enjoying playing.

I was sent this email earlier in the week and I thought it might give some of you a few more things to think about next time you are out playing!!

"Once a player has mastered the grip and stance, all he has to bear in mind, in the brief two-second interval it takes to swing, is to keep his left elbow pointed in toward the left hip and his right arm loose and closer to the body than the left and take the club head past his right knee and then break the wrists at just the right instant while the left arm is still traveling straight back from the ball and the right arm stays glued to the body and the hips come around in a perfect circle and meanwhile everything is mucked up unless the weight is 60 per cent on the right foot and 40 per cent on the left - not an ounce more or less - and at just the right point in the turn the left knee bends in toward the right in a dragging motion until the left heel comes off the ground but not too far and be sure the hands are over the right foot but not on the toe more than the heel except that the left side of the right foot is tilted off the ground - but not too far - and be sure the hands at the top of the swing are high and the shaft points along a line parallel with the ground and if it's a downhill lie the shaft is supposed to be pointed downhill too and pause at the top of the swing and count one, jerk the left arm straight down like a bell ringer yanking a belfry rope and don't un-cock the wrists too soon and pull the left hip around in a circle but don't let the shoulders turn with the hips - they have to be facing the hole and now transfer the weight 60 per cent to the left foot and 40 per cent to the right - not an ounce more or less - and tilt the left foot now so the right side of it is straight (that's the one you hit against) watch out for the left hand, it's supposed to be extended, but not too stiff or the shot won't go anywhere and don't let it get loose or you will hook, then let the wrists un-cock but don't force them or you'll smother the shot and don't break too soon but keep your head down then hit the ball!"  Anon

That's all there is to it then - Simple!
