GOLF INSURANCE
It is good to see that some of you have taken up the Golf Plan insurance deal. It really is important that all golfers are covered. You really are taking a risk if you are playing without proper golf insurance. Don't just think about you hitting someone with a ball. You might be surprised what their insurance plan covers you for. FILEY EXCHANGE
On Sunday 47 members from Hornsea and one special guest went to Filey Golf Club for the annual club exchange. What a fantastic day it was too with the course in excellent condition, the greens a little tricky at times, the weather perfect and the food after great too. For those that went on the bus I guess most would have had a quiet day the day after as all seemed to have maybe had one or two too many to drink!! Great fun was had though playing the snooker games at Filey bringing much entertainment to all playing. It really is a great day out and if you missed it this year make sure you go next year. I have been in contact with Filey and the date for your diaries next year is Sunday 11th September 2016. I shall also have a word with Gareth next year to put our flags in some interesting positions too!!
Leading scores:
1st Paul Duckworth & Allan Scarlett 43pts
2nd Tom Elder & Steve Newton 42pts
3rd Graham Markham & Bill Templeman 42pts
4th Lee Guest & Steve Carmichael 41pts
5th Alan Barker & Stretton Wright 41pts
6th Ian Lockwood & Jim Jeffries 40pts
Now there was an interesting photo taken by Jim Jeffries in the snooker room at Filey. This has nothing to do with me boys. Can anyone name these 3 golfers?
MARATHON RUNNER
Many congratulations to our Lady Vice Captain Caroline Barker for completing the Hull marathon in a fantastic time of 3 hours and 46 minutes. This time brought her home in 3rd place in her age category, 19th lady overall and 196 place in total. What a great achievement. Well done Caroline. This time also qualifies her to run in the London Marathon in 2017. She was raising money for the Mark Pollock Trust which is both our Gents and Ladies Captains charities this year. There are collection boxes in the shop and the clubhouse if you would like to make a donation. This picture was taken from the Hull Mail which shows Caroline running with a friend.

GREENS
Gareths August report
I popped out on Tuesday and took a couple of pictures of things that are happening out on the course. The hawthorn trees were receiving a trim and Ray was busy cutting hedges. The path on the 12th is now ready for some red shale and all mounds are now cut. There is a small area on the 15th still to cut. This was left as there is a wasp's nest. I also spotted some pretty looking toadstools on my way across the course. I wouldn't fancy eating them though!! I also had a quick chat with Gareth about what is becoming a problem on the right hand side of the 9th. Tree roots are really quite prominent now in a number of places and the grass in this area is starting to struggle with the trees taking all the moisture. Please take care if you hit your ball in this area as you could trip or hurt yourself when playing a shot. Something will need to be done in this area, possibly this winter.
