I have a really important announcement this week to start with. It has been a while coming but chicken soup is now available from the hot drinks machine in the shop. Trust me it is really quite nice.
On Saturday those that played might have noticed Steve Uzzell playing snooker in the Rolston Bar for most of the afternoon. The interesting part of this though, did any of you realise who he was playing snooker against? It was Daniel Gavins who has just got his European Tour Card after a fantastic week at the Tour School. Maybe a name for you all to look out for this coming year.
I'm fairly sure the wind blowing on Saturday morning must have woken some of you. As I walked down to the shop just after 6.30 it was really bad with all sort of debris flying around. By 7.15 I really didn't think anyone would play but how wrong I was. First out was Ian Sizer and Graham Winship who stood on the first tee at just after 7.30. I really did think they were mad but couldn't resist taking a photo!!
By 9 o'clock the weather had started to improve with the wind dropping slightly and only the odd snow flurry!! We do have some great members as in the end quite a lot of people went out. I'm not sure how many would have enjoyed it though!! Those that did play I'm sure would have noticed all the damage that was done as we lost quite a few branches and trees. Can I just give a big thanks to those members who sent me pictures and saved me having to go out and brave the weather!!!
I don't like to moan, but I was most disappointed last Wednesday to find that somebody has spilt hot chocolate on a white Puma top that was mysteriously moved to the back of the display. There was only members playing and I must say I find this sort of thing very annoying. Please at least admit to this sort of thing and don't try to hide it.

CAPTAINS CHALLENGE
On Sunday our challengers were Mike Brooke and Paul Brummitt. Alan and I got off to a good start and soon found ourselves 2 up. Alan set off really well making 3 birdies in the first 7 holes. This was good enough to see us take the front 9. A fantastic comeback though by Mike and Paul saw us standing on the last tee staring at our second defeat as we were one down and Paul was on a shot. Mike and Paul both hit good tee shots and when Alan put his tee shot in the rubbish the pressure was on me to produce. Mike and Paul both missed the green and when Paul didn't hit the best of chips the door was slightly open. Mike made a 5 and when Pauls putt agonisingly slipped by it left me with a short put to win the hole and give us our first halved match of the year.
Conditions on Sunday were really not very pleasant but the company made the morning really enjoyable. We have one challenge remaining next Sunday.
GREENS
With all of the strong winds last Saturday morning most of the leaves are now down and the majority collected. The strong winds did cause quite a lot of damage though to quite a few trees around the course but thankfully most of them are Leylandii that would have been coming out anyway. That back tee on the 3rd hole has now been cleared of all leylandii and the fence has been repaired. It really is much lighter around that tee now and should really help the tee. Some new hawthorn trees have been planted to the right of the 15th hole along with a few oak trees in the area were the Leylandii had been removed.
Leylandii are continuing to be removed and work has now started around the 7th tee. This area will be a little like the 12th and might look strange to start with but I'm sure in time it will make a big improvement to the 7th tee and 6th fairway.
