Can you all believe it is December?? I for one have yet to start thinking about Christmas present buying but I just wanted to remind you all that we have some great things in stock that would make ideal presents not only to give but maybe also to receive. Remember that not all the clothing we stock is for golf. Please look at our website if you can't get down to the shop. We can arrange for postage of goods on there also if you are not a member or can't get to the shop.
For December only we shall be reducing all Gents and Ladies clothing by 20%. This offer excludes waterproofs. We can also do Gift Vouchers to any value. These can be personalised if you give us enough notice. www.wrightgolfshop.com
You really don't have to look that hard to find a great deal in the Professional Shop at Hornsea.
Yvonne and Ron Newey and myself had an interesting meeting with Richard Brown who is the North of England representative for England Golf and Adam Toes who is the East Riding Community Recreation Officer last Friday. It was about considering if we should re apply for the grant to Sport England to try and get things moving on the range and short game area which was unsuccessful earlier this year. They both are in full support of it and are going to help us re submit the bid. I shall keep you all informed of any developments.
Tomorrow there is a meeting at Sandburn Golf Club which Yvonne and I shall be attending. It is a business growth forum for Golf Clubs. Hopefully we should bring back some good ideas to help maintain and improve Hornsea as one of the best clubs to be a member around. Also shows the varied things that Yvonne and myself now do.
RAIN RAIN GO AWAY!!
Tuesday morning was supposed to be the ladies Christmas competition. The course was open but the weather was terrible with quite heavy falling. Most of the ladies still came up and enjoyed a coffee but two brave ladies went out when the weather was at its worst. Well done Angie Hinch and Sharon Cane. I wonder who won?

FANTASY LEAGUE
Now I haven't mentioned this for a while and I must admit it is because for the last month the team I picked each week really did not perform well at all which saw me go rapidly down the leader board!! It finished last week and congratulations go to Jon Mitchell who has led from start to finish. He finished in 271st position overall which is a great effort. The final scores for the Hornsea Golf Club league can be seen on the poster. We shall definitely do it again when it starts for next season.
CAPTAINS CHALLENGE
Last Sunday was Alan and I's final Sunday Captains Challenge. Ross Meggison and Tom Walker were our challengers on a rather horrible morning with a really strong wind blowing and the occasional burst of very heavy rain. It was not very nice!! We had played with Ross and Tom earlier in the year in an Am Am and I had put a W on the board when we actually hadn't played against each other. They were not happy and wanted revenge!! Unfortunately though they did not get off to the best of starts and steady golf from Alan who does seem to play the first few holes well every week saw us 5 up after 5 and the front 9 was in the bag. We yet again though let our opposition back into it and after 9 holes our lead was cut to 2. As the wind got worse and the rain started to fall conditions really were not the best for golf and we all struggled on the back 9. In the end I made a 2 on the 17th to finish the game off and a 4 on the last also sealed the back 9. The 2 on the 17th also made the bits up to 7. A huge thanks though to both Ross and Tom as they both made very generous donations to the Captains Challenge.
Can I just thank Alan for a very enjoyable year with lots of great banter and good golf played. We only lost once and had one half so we made quite a good partnership. My only regret is not been able to stop him spinning his driver!!
GREENS
This week's conditions really have been testing for the greens staff with it been so wet at times. On Tuesday we had to ban ride on buggies for the first time. Some local courses were closed on Tuesday though so we are still doing well. It is still warm too and in places the grass could do with a cut but it is just too wet to do so. It was great on Saturday to hear so many complimentary comments about the course though and the greens for the time of year been so good.
Last Friday Gareth made another trip up to Turnberry where he picked up 50+ more heads for our irrigation system that they were just throwing away due to the works that Donald Trump is now carrying out. We now have enough to replace every one and should help keep our system going for many years. Just so you all know, the average cost for each head to be replaced new can be up to £400 for good ones. Work has continued on removing trees around the 7th tee despite the weather and it was really noticeable on Sunday how much more light there was on the tee.
If you have played this week you might have noticed some markings on the 9th, 12th and 13th. This is because the bunker work is about to start on these holes. At times the holes might be played to temporary greens or even closed. Please bear with us whilst this work is been done.
EAST RIDING ALLIANCE
Yesterday saw the final East Riding Alliance before the Christmas break. It was another great result for team Hornsea which included another win for Steve Uzzell. Yesterday Streve partnered Lee Nicholson who had won earlier in the season with Adrian Rossindale. From what I have been told Steve was on great form with Lee always there backing him up. They finished with a score of 66 which won first prize on a count back of the last three holes. Our other pair was Adrian Rossindale who was with Nathan Wright. The could only manage a level par 72 in testing conditions. These two score though take Hornsea into the overall lead by 3 clear shots from Hessle. The next event will be held at Flamborough at the end of January. The sheets are now up and Steve Uzzell is running out of partners as if you win you can't play together again. Well done team Hornsea. Keep up the good work. The website won't be updated as yet but follow the link for a full report later in the week. www.eryga.co.uk
